Overview
Visit the largest solar observatory in the world and observe the stars of Teide with high-powered telescopes.
This excursion is ideal for astronomy enthusiasts.
Your journey begins with a guided tour at the Teide Observatory in the late afternoon. Here, your Starlight guide, an expert in night sky observation, will explain the significance of the Canary Islands’ skies, the observatory’s telescopes, and the various projects conducted by the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands. You’ll also have the unique opportunity to observe the sun like never before, viewing its sunspots and flares through a specialized telescope.
As the day draws to a close, you’ll witness a breathtaking sunset from the observatory itself, with the sun setting behind El Teide. The sky will be painted with a stunning array of colors, offering a spectacular view of the volcano and the ocean.
When night falls, we’ll head to the base of the Teide Cable Car. Here, far from the light pollution of urban areas, you’ll uncover the secrets of the night sky through both naked-eye observation and a high-powered telescope. From El Teide, you can see 83 of the 88 officially recognized constellations.
You’ll discover stars, planets, galaxies, and clusters like never before, as your Starlight guide points out constellations, shares the celestial map, and provides fascinating details about the objects you observe. Be amazed by the vastness of the universe and enjoy an unparalleled experience in one of the most visited national parks in the world.
The excursion also includes a break to grab a bite to eat. You can choose to bring your own snack, use the vending machines at the Cable Car station, or opt for the optional picnic available with your Astronomic Tour and visit to the Teide Observatory.
